Symantec Endpoint Protection fails to install, rolls back and reboots

It pretends to install but has an internal error and rolls back, then has to reboot. Happens over and over.

  1. Uninstall completely, run the uninstall tool, and reboot.
  2. Open regedit and navigate to the key HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
  3. Change the value of AppData to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming and reboot
  4. You may need to place a copy of unrar.dll in the Windows folder, you can find the latest copy of unrar on the internet
  5. Run CMD as an admin, navigate to the right folder, and run setup.exe again.
